
How are Brisbane’s workplaces performing when it comes to sustainability?
According to recent research by the Australian Conservation Foundation, Brisbane is Australia’s third most sustainable city in the ACF’s Sustainable Cities Index.
The study, which established 15 indicators across three broad categories - environmental performance, quality of life and resilience - found that Brisbane scored particularly well for water use, biodiversity and food production.
So how are Brisbane’s workplaces performing when it comes to sustainability? Business leaders and policymakers will be gathering to present the latest workplace sustainability research at the Climate Change @ Work Brisbane Conference August 4, 2010.
Keynote speaker at the conference will be Ian Lowe, president of the Australian Conservation Foundation.
Professor Lowe, who has been recognised by the Prime Minister’s Environment Award for Outstanding Individual Achievement, will discuss theempowerment of sustainability in the workplace and the need for workplaces to integrate sustainability into their business strategy.
Also speaking about the latest environmental policy for Queensland will be Matthew Skoien, senior director, Office of Climate Change, Department of Environment and Resource Management.
Key business leaders from HP and Accenture will be discussing the importance of environmental leadership in the workplace and the latest research and will be discussed by Dr. Sally Russell, lecturer in corporate social responsibility and environmentalmanagement, Griffith University.
Another critical area being discussed at the conference will be 'Workplace Sustainability Initiatives in the Tourism Sector', which will be presented by Dr. David Weaver, professor of tourism research, Centre for Tourism, Sport and Service Innovation Research, Griffith University and Stewart Moore, CEO, EC3 Global.
The Climate Change @ Work Conference will also provide an insight into the latest green business solutions and carbon emissions mitigation practices in the workplace as well as providing and update on green jobs and green workforce development in Australia.
The Workplace Research Centre will be presenting the findings of the Skills for Green Jobs in Australia report. The project is part of a wider Green jobs initiative jointly implemented by the ILO, the United National Environment Program, the International Employers Organisation and the International Trade Union Confederation.
