The Melbourne Water Creating Liveable Cities Exhibition brings together Melbourne designers to present installations relating to current water use and suggestions for sustainable change.
The Creating Liveable Cities Exhibition is the result of a 12-month collaboration between Melbourne Water and State of Design Festival, which started with a workshop of 100 people in October 2009 from range of disciplines - landscape architecture, engineering, futurists, marketing, social science and architecture.
Melbourne Water’s motivation is to provoke and inspire designers to rethink the value of water and how they can collaborate with other professions to create a more liveable city.
The ‘Creating Liveable Cities’ exhibition will be held within a new gallery space in the QV and will be created by leading names in design; Büro North, Greg More, Ian Douglas Jones and Room 11.
Ian Douglas Jones’ piece provides a sculptural representation of the relationship between greater or lesser urban density andenvironmental sustainability. The work compares the current state of several major cities and shows exemplary solutions forfuture water use.
Room 11 will create a grand exit experience for visitors. A forest of water-filled test tubes will provide an interaction point. Each vial contains a pledge, a statement or a scientific fact relating to water use in a future liveable city.
Burö North will create a series of sculptures that reveal the water content of a range of everyday products with suggestions for better purchasing.
