Western Australia's property and mining sectors are continuing to see a growth in employment and interstate migration.
With the lowest State unemployment in Australia at 4.3 per cent, more than a quarter of all active construction projects in the country are in Western Australia. The construction industry is the third biggest employer in the State behind the health care and retail sectors.
"Property is certainly one of the most stable employment sectors in the State with almost 10 per cent of the workforce in construction and it still outperforms the mining sector in terms of job numbers. Last year alone there were almost 120,000 people hired in Western Australia in the construction sector," said Katharine Wicks, Perth Associate Director of Capstone recruitment firm.
Perth as a city continues to expand and major new civil infrastructure projects continue to buoy the construction sector such as the $1.8 billion Fiona Stanley Hospital, $700 million Burswood Stadium and $609 million Perth City Link project.
Interstate migration is said to be playing a significant factor in filling many of these roles, with many people relocating from the eastern States for the opportunity to be part of the property and construction growth in Perth.
