The Melbourne Recital Centre and MTC Theatre Project in Southbank has won the Moore Stephens Award for Public Buildings at the Property Council of Australia/Rider Levett Bucknall Innovation and Excellence Gala Awards.
The award was presented to Major Projects Victoria executive general manager, Sean Sweeney, and Bovis Lend Lease general manager, Geoff Moore, on June 13, 2009.
Major Projects Victoria managed the project on behalf of the Victorian government, Arts Victoria and the University of Melbourne. Bovis Lend Lease was the managing contractor, with design and construction responsibilities for the Ashton Raggatt McDougall designed complex.
The Melbourne Recital Centre is the new state of the art home for performing and recording Australian chamber music. It comprises two performance spaces, the 1,000 seat Elisabeth Murdoch Hall and a 150 seat Salon. The new 500 seat Sumner Theatre is the new home of the Melbourne Theatre Company.
Bovis Lend Lease commenced construction of the Melbourne Recital Centre and the MTC Theatre project in July 2006 and it opened for business in February 2009.
